Some Patriots fans are upset about this move, but I believe this was a much needed deal the Patriots had to make. Smith signed a 4YR/$50M contract back in 2021 with $31.25GTD. Since that contract, Smith has done NOTHING. Catching 55 passes for 539 yards and one touchdown. Yes you read that right. ONE TOUCHDOWN. I have heard a lot of Patriots fans say they at least wanted to see what Smith and Henry could do with O'Brien in the two tight end set, but to be honest with you, that hasnt worked since O'Brien did it with Gronk and Hernandez.
