Former Dolphins Tight End Mike Gesicki is signing a one year deal with the Patriots that is worth up to $9 million.

I don't hate this move. A lot of people are asking what was the point of trading Jonnu Smith just to sign Mike Gesicki? Well, Per Ben Volin, the Patriots were able to trade away Smith entire contract to the Falcons. He is due $11M this year with $6.25M full guaranteed. That is a huge win for the Patriots. Gesicki contract is only worth up to $9M. Last year the Patriots were one of the worst red zone offenses in the league. Adding Juju and Gesicki to this offense that is now being paired with Hunter Henry and DeVante Parker definitely gives Mac Jones and Bill O'Brien a lot to work with this year. Also a little fun fact, Bill O'Brien coached Mike Gesicki in college when O'Brien was the head coach for Penn State.

Gesicki is a big tight end. Being 6′ 6″, 250 pounds he is going to be great piece in this offense that already has Hunter Henry. And not to mention O'Brien loves to use to two tight end sets. It didn't work with Jonnu but I have a feeling it might work with Gesicki. Gesicki had back to back 700+ yards in 2020 and 2021 with 6 touch downs in 2020 and 2 touchdowns in 2021.

A rather slow start to free agency, New England is starting to pick up steam. Hopefully they keep the ball moving!
