Why Go For Rodgers When You Can Have Lamar?

The New York Jets are sitting here a week into free agency and believe they have found the guy to make them a Super Bowl contender. Aaron Rodgers is that guy and has openly expressed his feelings on playing football and doing so for the Jets. He even went as far as to give the Jets a wish list of players that he wants them to sign. Much like Santa Clause getting a kids Christmas list, the Jets went to work immediately on recruiting and signing the players on that list. Gotta make the guy happy right? All of the dominos are falling into place except the most important one. Rodgers still isn’t a Jet. There are rumors that the Packers and Jets are close to a deal to trade Rodgers, but the only hold up is compensation. The Packers have been speculated to want at least two 1st round selections. This brings me to the point of this article. Why on God’s green Earth would ANYONE give up two 1st round selections for a 39 year old QB not named Tom Brady? And if you are willing to give up two 1st rounders, why wouldn’t you look to get a QB who is actually going to be the QB of the future instead of the QB of maybe the next 2 years?

Lamar Jackson is available for the same two 1st round selections the Packers supposedly want. Rodgers is making $50+ million a season and all Lamar wants is something like what Watson got in Cleveland. That would mean that Lamar would make less money, play longer for your organization, and make you a perennial contender in the AFC. If you are a Jets fan then there is no reason you want them to trade two 1st round selections for Rodgers at 39 when you could have Lamar at 26 for approximately the same compensation and less overall money with less demands. We have all seen what Lamar has done with the Ravens weapons which, outside of Mark Andrews, is essentially nothing. You telling me that he is worth less than Rodgers? Just the longevity alone of having a 26 year old former MVP, with off the charts athletic ability, and the thought of him in a Jets uniform with those weapons doesn’t leave you salivating Jets fans?

Jackson is going to play longer, at a higher level than Rodgers will in MetLife. If the Packers truly are asking for two 1st round selections for a 39 year old Rodgers, it is time to shift gears. You wanna be a contender now and for the next 5 years minimum, Jets fans? Let Rodgers return to his darkness and bring in Lamar. The AFC East and the AFC in general would be yours for the taking.
